Summary - 3 sentence intro. with a bang - yes/no?

Hey guys,

Wanted to get your opinion on the following:

Have heard quite a few negative reviews about a "summary" section. What do you think of including a more personal 3 sentence summary section that gives a personality flavor and a kind of interesting introduction? Of course it will be relevant and actually summarizes the resume.

Let me know your thoughts. Much thanks in advance.

eriginalAlso consider adding fun shapes and colors to show that you really bring something different to the table.

I've heard good things about scented paper

ConnorCoconut is usually the preferred scent at most BB's, so I would shoot for that.

I'd think it were bananas.

i have my resumes handwritten in crayon on patchwork construction paper and i'd recommend you do the same. but to answer your question about the 3 sentence thing - no. just don't do it

As a career adviser and professional resume writer I highly recommend a Summary of Qualifications up front. It allows hiring managers the opportunity to see your greatest strengths up front without having to search for them. Hiring managers will only spend 10 seconds tops reviewing your resume. If they see what they want up front, they are more likely to read further down your resume. You can forward both your cover letter and resume to my email and I would be more than happy to provide you with advice on both.

Sincerely,

Vince [email protected]

Professional resume writer? I highly doubt it. What qualifies you to review resumes professionally, let alone write them - especially given the fact your suggesting something as blatantly useless as a summary. Not only does the summary re-hash what should already be clear for any experienced reader, but it takes up valuable real estate on your one page. Anyone with any chance at a career in high finance shouldn't have the space for a summary. Leave that to the liberal arts majors and subway sandwich artists of the world.

Half the people on this forum could be considered "professional resume writers" given their experience, don't flatter yourself. Please go back to playing table tennis in your parents basement.
