advice for family member

hey guys I asking advice for my sister because she still does not have an account. so here is the deal my sister wanted to become a doctor but she then started learning about finance and investment banking and realized that she was way more interested in it than medicine. She is a senior now so she applied to business schools around the area like penn state, Rutgers, Fordham, NYU, seton hall etc but she unfortunately did not apply to Baruch because she did not know about the school when she applied. she got into most of these schools but the problem is the money. NYU and Fordham gave her nothing and so her cheapest options are Penn state and seton hall because Rutgers even though she is in state did not give her anything and so it will be 30k and she also does not like it. so know she is between seton hall and penn state and the problem is that penn state is also very expensive and seton hall gave her a scholarship but only brought it down to roughly about the same as penn state. she is thinking to maybe going to penn state and the. transferring to Barauch due to it being so cheap . what advice can you guys give her. sorry for being so long.

Go to Pen and stay there. No point of transferring to Baruch. I would say Pen is better for recruiting (my opinion), just tell her to keep a high gpa and get into the natty fund.

Another alternative would be going to Penn for a year, killing it and then transferring to a semi/target that your family can afford. This would be a really good option for her to follow if your family can afford it.

thanks for the reply. that’s what i told her but she is so scared of loans but she is a smart girl with high stats (33 act and 3.85 unweighted gpa. she also went to a very rigorous high school in NJ) I think she can definitely make it. she also wants to have that college experience and from what I heard it would be difficult at barauch especially since she would be commuting.

for NYU it’s about 320 k for 4 years and for penn it’s about 118 k for 4 years but she talked to a representative and she said that she may be eligible for a bell grant next year while NYU did not give her any options.

I echo what the user above said, go to Penn State and don't look back. Your sister already knows she has an interest in finance and you mention she is smart, so if she is willing to put in the work, she can definitely succeed at Penn State. I did not go to Penn State, but the Nittany Lion fund, the PSIA, and PSFS all seem like great opportunities the university offers. While big state schools might not necessarily be "targets", they have large alumni networks that are willing to help students, and the top-performing students tend to do very well for themselves (i.e. OSU, Indiana, Wisconsin)

Go to Penn State, crush it, get into the fund and profit. Penn state has a decent presence on the street and she should look into the women's programs. I heard good things about taking advantage of the diversity programs and going off of girls at my semi college, they tend to place well.
