Any new info about UT MSF?

Applied in the second cycle, Feb 6th. Have you first cycle bros heard back yet? If so how long did it take? Are they planning on boosting the class size a bit? 29 seems like a very tiny number for a school as large and well recognized as UT/Mccombs.

I applied for first round, just had my interview on Tuesday and am expecting to hear back next week. Said they had 4 times as many applications as they expected so it may take a little longer. They are planning on boosting class size to about 50 I believe.

Did either of you get any placement information? I cannot believe they do not have any placement information on their website. FT recruiting ended months ago.

I know UT-Austin is king in Texas, but that is ton of applications. Sounds like I'll need to kill the GMAT if I want to be competitive next cycle.

On the other hand, I wonder if an upswing in apps for UT might push TAMU to make their MSF a traditional program that admits all grad students rather than just A&M undergrads.

I guess for y'alls reference I had a 760 GMAT but only a 2.8 GPA in my undergrad Economics degree (too much partying/laziness). I got a little bit of placement info, they placed a couple at Dimensional Fund Advisors in Austin, one at Deloitte, one at PWC, maybe another at KPMG? Forgot the rest, but basically responses have been positive.

As far as TAMU goes who knows. TAMU is just a weird school, very protective of their own since they've always played second fiddle to UT. I'm sure it will happen eventually but I couldn't tell you when.

Are interviews mandatory for UT? I thought I read somewhere they they are at the option of the school..

This is what I got in response to asking Katie about placement stats back in January

"At present, over 40 companies have extended interviews to MSF students, including Goldman, Citigroup, Exxon, and Deloitte, to name a few. Interest has been high, with most students getting multiple interviews, and we expect interest to continue to grow as we reach out and educate recruiters about the program."

^lol, sure thing man

For info purposes for people waiting to hear back, I got in with slightly above their medians, no work experience, non target. No interview, some scholarship money. Texas resident.

I made a group. There was one already but it had multiple pending memberships, I don't think the owner is keeping up with it. I'll try to approve join requests within a day or so of receiving them.

Applied second round at:

-Tulane (Energy Management) -UT Austin -WUSTL (Corporate finance/investment banking track)

Was planning on doing third round but not going to now:

-Vanderbilt -Duke

Accepted at Tulane last week, then UT Austin a couple of days ago. Still haven't heard anything from WUSTL, but i'm picking UT regardless. UT was my top choice because i'm from Texas (as is my family) and McCombs has a pretty extensive alumni network in the state. I figured it would be my best bet for banking/consulting/trading/asset management in Austin/Dallas/Houston. There were also more trivial things like longhorn football and enjoying Austin/the campus, but they didn't factor into my preference ranking.

If I was dead set on NYC or somewhere else in the northeast I would probably pick WUSTL or Vandy (though again, not sure if i'm even in at the former).
