Best Master in Finance in a Non-Target University in UK for working in M&A in London

Hi,

I am a spanish student in the last year of a 4-year Bachelor of Sciences in Economics, and i would like to work in the Investment Banking Sector, specifically, in corporate finance/M&A.

I am considering to take a Master in Finance/Master in Accounting & Finance in a Non-target university in UK, as i would like to work in London when i finish the master.

What options do you thing are better among this Universities, to work in M&A in London?

- Aston Business School (Triple acreditation)
- Nottingham BS (Russell Group)
- King's College UoL (Msc Accounting, accountability & Financial Management) (Russell Group)
- Queen Mary UoL (Russell Group)
- University of Durham (Russell Group)
- Newcastle University (Russell Group)
- University of Glasgow, Adam Smith Business School (Russell Group)
- Sheffield Business School (Russell Group)&(Triple acreditation)
- Birmingham Business School(Russell Group)
- Loughborough School of Business and Economics
- Bradford Busines School (Triple acreditation)

- (**) I am also considering UCD Michael Smurfit GBS in Dublin, (Triple acreditation).

Please, give me the best 5 options, since i will apply to 5 universities, and then i will decide between those that accept me.

Thanks in advance.

Kings / Dur or bust. Honestly though, your best bet is to stay abroad, get an internship in a local office and then stay under the radar of London's knowledge of universities. Seeing Sheffield masters is far worse then seeing random European uni they've never heard of with some work experience.

Thankyou for your response, I agree with you that Durham is the Best option, but i need to apply to more Universities just in case i am rejected, so can you give me between two or four options? Thanks

What is preventing you from applying to LSE or Warwick?

If I was you, I'd aim for Warwick, LSE, Imperial and Durham. Throw oxbridge in there if your stats allow it.

Outside what I've mentioned, somewhere in London is a better bet for networking. Kings comes in with a shout.

Places like Aston or Bradford will struggle to get you into BO/MO.

Rumplesmoothspin thanks you very much for your reply

Matrick, because i want to start the Master this year, in September, and it's to late to apply to the TOP Universities, moreover i have no time enough to prepare the GMAT, and the TOP Universities abroad( Hec, Essec, Bocconi, ST Gallen, RSM and SSE) ask for the GMAT. Another important factor is that my Budget is about 20.000-25.000€ in total.

I think i am finally going to apply to Kings, Queen, Durham, Aston and Glasgow, any opinion more??

Honestly, it might be worth taking a year out. Working in any finance-related job and applying to a target.

If you don't get into Durham, places like Aston, Glasgow, Queens and may be even Kings will leave you with a completely worthless piece of paper. I am talking from experience of friends who desperately tried to improve their odds, went to Aston to a do Masters and are now working in Finance schemes at Tesco. Again, this isn't a jab at Tesco. In fact its one of more lucrative finance careers for graduates if you stick with it but the point I'm making is that he was down about 20k for the year on his masters, going into a job that someone with an undergrad from Westminster or Anglia Ruskin also got. He didn't need that masters.

You seem like you want to do a masters to help you get into IB but if you end up Glasgow, chances are slim. Of course there isn't anything in your way when it comes to networking like a ninja and still making it but the same can be said about networking with your current undergrad degree. If you can find a boutique in Spain that will let you work for a year. Heck, even if they pay you scraps. Save, SAVE, SAVE. Get enough saved up and sit your GMAT so you can apply to Imperial or LSE come next year.
