Best one year finance master's
Hi, I'm thinking of applying to a one year finance master's in the US and Europe. Here are my stats
- 24 Asian male. One year internship at a startup.
- GPA 3.56
- GRE 326, GMAT 720
- Non-target school (saw several people networking their ass off to MBB and BB but rare).
I wish to work in NY/London IBD. I don't have a work permit in either of those countries.
Programs I'm considering applying to: - Vanderbilt MSF - Oxford MSc Financial Economics - LSE MSc Finance - LSE MiM - MIT MFin (Probably out of my reach) - Washington University St Louis MS Finance - HEC Paris Msc Finance - IE Business School Msc Finance - Bocconi MiM of Msc Finance
My goal is an IBD front office, possibly consulting. Location preference is NY>London.
I'm not that good at math (took calculus, linear algebra, and probably. Did ok, but probably not enough at places like Princeton or maybe MIT).
Pros about European programs (especially the ones in France, Spain and Italy) are that they're cheap and I can learn a languages. Cons are that they're not in the US and I feel unsure if I can get a job in London graduating from Bocconi or HEC as a non-european.
Pros about the US schools are I have a better chance at getting a job in the US especially with STEM OTP at places like Vanderbilt (placement seems impressive). Cons are that they are very expensive.
I'd like to hear your opinions about the schools and my plan. If you went to any of the above program, I highly appreciate your advice. Also in general if it's possible to get a job after finishing those programs as a foreigner.

Bocconi and HEC will get you interviews in london. they are targets.
if you're looking at london, it might be worth also considering the MSc Finance courses at Imperial and LBS.
Thanks. Do you think me not being a European citizen makes it hard to get a position in London? I don't know if the target brand apply to international students as well.
Also, do you think it's possible to apply to NY positions from HEC/Bocconi?
i don't think that would be (too much of) an issue tbh. firms hire lots of brits who only speak english, and they give working visas to candidates they want to hire, so you should be ok.
i can't speak for ny hiring i'm afraid - you'll have to ask a yank. i would assume that they are much less targeted in the states than in the uk/europe, but i couldn't back that up with examples.

Ie is trash for masters. Add imperial and probably ESCP and ESSEC (not as good as the others)

Keep in mind that Bocconi is a two-year masters. Thus, the tuition fee is 14,000x2 = 28,000 for the two years plus living expenses for two years. As a result they are not so different from a financial perspective.
For London IB, apply to Oxford, LSE, LBS, Imperial, HEC, Bocconi and maybe ESSEC/ESCP Grande Ecole.
U.S IB recruiting is impossible from Europe if you are not a U.S citizen.
Thanks. What do you think about US master's? I don't have the enough work experience to apply to top ranked MBAs but prefer to work in the US due to high salary/London's potential diminished status due to brexit.

People keep mentioning Bocconi etc. but all EU universities are non-target unless you are fluent in that language (except HEC).
You won’t be able to get into NYC from a U.K./EU university, so I think the first thing you need to do is decide what country you want to work in.
I'd say I prefer NY(US) but there aren't many high quality master's in the US compared to Europe. MIT and Vanderbilt are mentioned frequently but what else? Also the tuition is significantly higher in the US especially compared to continental European schools.
Is it true that even Bocconi isn't a target? I hear lots of people go to London from Bocconi.
All the people that to go Bocconi and make it to london are in 95% of cases Italians and in 5% of cases from the Balkans. Never met anyone that’s not from these make it to london.

Not directly - if you work in IB for 2 years and transfer yes, but recruiting for the US directly out of these schools, and I am assuming OP even needs a bisa will just make it impossible.
