Can I make it to B-School?
Hi there :)
I am a 24 year old female hoping to apply to b-schools in the near future (Primarily looking at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Columbia, Yale, Cornell, Michigan, Chicago, Northwestern and the likes). Since graduating from college, I realized I enjoy strategy-based work - especially after contrasting the work in my current job versus some of the work I have done for my own ventures. I enjoy solving problems and making an impact. Based on my conversations with others in the field, I think consulting is a good fit for me going forward.
I graduated with a 3.46 gpa in finance from a top undergraduate business program. GMAT = 730. Currently, I work in Corporate Banking.
Outside of work, I like to keep busy with the limited extra time I have. I started a global non-profit with a team based in 7 different countries. My organization has achieved significant so far and I think we've made a pretty strong impact in our area of work. In addition, I am co-founding a unique tech application - although there is much work left to do in this project.
Random facts: I have previously worked for and been published in a global magazine as a freelance writer. I recently authored a book on understanding non-profits from a business perspective. I used to be editor-in-chief of my B-school's publication.
Any thoughts on how I can improve my candidacy and other schools I should look into? Is my GPA a large concern? Any other advice?
Yes, you are very competitive. If you put in a strong application, interview well, and can show career progressions/leadership, you'll def get into at least one of those.
I went to Stern, had a 3.35 GPA, 750 GMAT, and non-front office finance experience and got into a M7. You have better EC's, better GPA, and better work experience than me, plus you're female which is easier.
Congrats!! That's awesome to hear from a former Stern alum! Anything you think you did that helped you jump into the M-7 pool?
High GMAT and showing leadership/growth within my role.
Great, thanks for the advice!
You've got a great shot at getting into at least one of the schools in the M7. I'd suggest picking out a handful between the M7+Tuck and applying whenever you feel ready as they have the best consulting placement.
