CBS vs LBS

Guys, can you please share your opinions about these two MBAs? I have been accepted to London Business School and Columbia and have a difficult time deciding which to attend. Most likely,I will be working in the US after my MBA, does LBS have the same standing in America as CBS and other top schools do?
Thanks in advance!

to clarify, it depends on what and where you want to work. Anything finance or NYC related, go with CBS. admittedly a small sample size, but all the CBS alum i've met try really hard to maintain a strong alum network. someone else once compared CBS to Avis: "we try harder!"

Relinquis, LBS is less expensive tuition wise, no money from CBS (it's J-term).

Keensetofpeepers, I am in finance, most likely will go back to my current employer for a few years and then start my own thing. My main goal is not even employment after MBA, although I do want to have as solid an option with the 'right' ticket as possible, I want to establish broad international connections for my future endevours.

I was reading the forums here for some time and all of your feedback is extremely helpful. Please throw more thoughts my way.

If you're going back to your previous employer why not skip the financial hardship and do the EMBA Global at both Columbia/LBS (joint programme)? You'll get to spend time at both, build networks across the atlantic and stay at your current employer.

It's a no brainer if you're staying with the same firm. The bonus is you don't have to live like a pauper student and can have an adult life as you'll still have your salary.

I have a couple of ex-colleagues who have done this... one has a nice vacation villa at lake como... she's in her late 30s... That's what happens when you're on the right track, get your MBA, but don't lose on opportunities or income in the interim.

I am in my late 20s and don't have a villa in Italy, I wish though. So I do need to decide between these two. I am planning to return to my current firm, but who knows how life will turn in a year and a half.

Plus the EMBA is not the same as a regular MBA, is it?

Are you planning on staying with your firm or not immediately after your MBA? If you are, then there shouldn't be a difference between EMBA and MBA, apart from the financial hardship of the latter.

If you aren't going to stay with your current firm then do the MBA in the country you want to work in. It really is that simple.

Both are great schools, but if you sit in on a class at LBS and one of Columbia, you will likely realize that the students are a little more experienced at LBS. However, Columbia is better if you want to have a pure US career. Also, if you are going back to your previous employer, consider the experience of living in London vs. NYC. You can PM me if you want any advice on the phone or in email.

Appreciate the input! As of now, I plan to return. But if things do change and I am not returning to my employer, then I am trying to figure out which school is better. If I will stay in Europe, will I be as well 'covered' with the CBS ticket as with LBS's? And vice versa? Or is the difference not significant at all?

Relinquis, thank you for your time. I am American and based in the US. Not sure about OCR now but of course would like to see all options before going back to my firm. Can finish LBS in 15 months and CBS in 16th, so that's a wash. I know it is a good dilemma to have but I am really stuck now...

I think you should stick with Columbia unless you have your heart set on working in London / Europe.

Look into the option of doing the EMBA Global at both schools if you're staying at your current firm, but want to spend a little time in London as well.
