College Application Questions (Umich Ross, USC Marshall, etc...)

Prefacing this by saying I'm not a loser, I am on multiple varsity sports and go out every weekend. I'm just very interested in business and ahead of the game.

I'm only a sophomore so I understand this is incredibly early, but I am trying to give myself the best chances possible to get into a top school.

Currently my resume is shaping up to be...

4.4-4.6 GPA

Praying for 1500 or above SAT

ECs:

Employee #1/CMO of AI edtech startup which is going to be sold in the 1m range

President of religious club

Officer for CS programming club

Officer for FBLA

Member of youth advisory board for a pro sports player's mental health org

Entreprenuership club founder

Business nonprofit style org

Was wondering if anyone at UMich or USC or with knowledge about those two schools could chance me.

I like those two schools because they are sporty (huge cfb fan) and ug business options. +LA is sick

Also if anyone has advice about resume boosters or cool activities I would love to hear.

Any thoughts are welcomed

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it sounds like you're on a fantastic track for schools like UMich Ross and USC Marshall. Your GPA and target SAT score are definitely in line with what top business programs look for. Your extracurriculars are impressive, showcasing leadership, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to community service. Both UMich Ross and USC Marshall value diverse experiences and leadership potential, which you seem to have in spades.

For UMich Ross, the emphasis on real-world business experiences through their MAP (Multidisciplinary Action Projects) program could be a great fit for someone with your entrepreneurial background. Ross is known for its collaborative environment and strong alumni network, particularly in the Midwest but also nationally.

USC Marshall, on the other hand, offers a strong business education with the added benefit of being in Los Angeles, a major hub for entertainment, tech, and startups. The Trojan network is famously supportive, and the school's location offers unique opportunities for internships and networking in various industries.

To further boost your resume, consider the following: - Seek leadership roles in the activities you're involved in, as you've already been doing. Leadership positions are highly valued. - Look for internships or summer programs related to your interests in business. Real-world experience can set you apart. - Consider national or international competitions in business, entrepreneurship, or other areas you're passionate about. Success in these areas can be a significant boost. - Continue to cultivate your interest in business through self-directed projects or learning. This shows initiative and a genuine passion for the field.

Remember, while your academic and extracurricular achievements are crucial, your essays and interviews will also play a significant role in your application. Use them to tell your story, why you're passionate about business, and how you plan to make an impact.

Keep up the great work, and don't hesitate to reach out to current students or alumni from these programs to get insights and advice. Networking can provide valuable perspectives and help guide your application process. Good luck!

try to find something youre really interested in within the realm of business or finance and dial in on that particular EC (reach schools view that as a 'high-commitment EC)

As long as you do that, get a 1500+ and keep those grades up, you've got a good shot at any T20

This is coming from a 1490 SAT intl. senior in HS going thru this exact process, and this is exactly what I would tell my younger self

That’s a tough one, I hate to be vague but that’s really up to you to discover

just know that the more interested you are in a particular subsection of business, the more effort you will be willing to put into the EC

DONT just pad your ECs, cause everybody your age thinks quantity > quality, but that’s so far from the truth

in an age where everybody has FBLA or founder of some stupid finance club as an EC, you need these high-commitment ECs to distinguish yourself

like I know a kid who got into wharton because he had a really successful IG business based on designing cool cakes lol

it’s whatever you want it to be, just make sure you enjoy it
