Cornell Econ vs. Vanderbilt Econ

High school senior looking to get into IBD in NYC. My two top choices right now are Cornell (better for job prospects) and Vanderbilt (arguably better for student life). I understand that Cornell has more prestige/better OCR/more alumni, but how much worse would Vanderbilt be in terms of job placement on the east coast if I were to choose it?

as someone who’s graduating from vandy and originally from nyc I think I can provide some input. For IB, I’d say Vandy places fairly well into NYC I’d say the regional bias is mostly for MBB kids who usually go to places like Houston more often than New York. Honestly, I’d just go on LinkedIn and ask some incoming analysts or summer analysts yourself. I’m going to be in trading so not entirely sure how difficult it truly is. Vanderbilt is way smaller than Cornell and I think students do really enjoy being here. good luck!

Uh, I don't think too hard. Most people who want to do trading don't shoot for BBs and try to go to places like 2Sigma/Optiver/IMC. If you maintain a good GPA (which isn't that hard to do in econ honestly) and network, you should be able to get into any S&T program.

If you really like Vandy, then go for it. The marginal edge that Cornell has on Vanderbilt doesn't equal to a terrible college experience. If you want IB you can get it in Vanderbilt as well, just make sure you network early and are focused throughout school.

I went to vanderbilt and can say that the experience is incredible- students are really nice and everyone is down to earth. Being in IB you can tell that kids from Stern and Cornell spent 4 years studying "how to be an investment banker" and come out socially odd, aggressive, and depressed bc they had bad college experiences.
