CUNYs Vs. St John's University
If you were a college student offered to go to SJU or Brooklyn College which one would you choose? ...Having in mind that you want to transfer to Baruch or better institution later on. Try to answer the question purely based on what each institutions offers to prospective monkey. Please try to discuss your arguments.
I value your opinion - thanks!
If you're planning to transfer to Baruch does it really matter?
Do you plan on transferring after 1 year or 2? (associates degree obtained?)
I'd recommend transferring after 1 year, so you can have a better chance at getting internships. There are tons of kids trying to get into Finance from Baruch (and it has the best reputation among the CUNYs).
I don't know anything about st. johns (and that's saying something). If a school isn't a top 50 school (give or take) there's no point in footing a $40,000 per year tuition bill...
Based on this I'd say Brooklyn College
Exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for contributing!
Def not St Johns.
I have a buddy that goes to SJU. The school has little to none regarding alumni in IB. Rough estimate maybe 10 - 25. The school is known for breaking into the big 4 for accounting and consulting.
If your end goal is Baruch (which is the better of the schools), I suggest Brooklyn College. This is only because CUNYs don't allow you to transfer credits from private colleges so essentially you'd be wasting a year at SJU.
Another suggestion - start early, create a resume and LinkedIn, start researching the basics of finance and valuation, and when you start school start looking for a wealth management internship ASAP.
Great to see another informative reply! Thank you so much. Your profile says you're interning in the IBD. If so, how do/did you like it and what was the process of getting it like (interview, networking, etc.)
PM me
On linkedin, they have over 300 alumni in BBs alone.
St. John's has a huge network and alumni actually want to help current students... Can't say the same about Baruch's alum
