Differences between various rounds of admission

A lot of universities have multiple rounds of admission for their various graduate programs, including B-school. Is there any difference between applying for one round or another? Is there any advantage for applying in an earlier round?

I would say that it's generally better to apply earlier rather than later. However, apply when your application is ready to go with the GMAT you want etc.
