Dilemma: Transfer to Target school or stay where I am happy

Happy new years!

I'm a student at a semi-target(BC) and I  have been doing really well socially and academically (3.9+). I noticed that none of the people at my school go to top groups that I really want to go to. This could be selection bias since when I talk to them they are all interested in like industrials, healthcare, etc.

I really like the school and am really enjoying my time here. I was wondering is transferring to a school like Notre Dame, Duke, etc. worth it for the top groups? Or should I stay here and try to grind my way maybe in the groups i really want to join??

I’d stay at BC and stay where you are happy. There are plenty of BC grads on the street. What groups are you interested in? As someone in the industry, there’s a variety of reasons someone chooses a group that are often looked down upon by prospects on this site. Just network with BC alums within a bank and get one to take you under their wing and then ask to speak with someone in x group.

Imo it’s not worth transferring for a slightly better shot at GS tmt (or whatever group)

I'm specifically really interested in Rx. FWIW surprisingly we do have a good chunk of people at GS TMT haha.

As an analyst, I was wondering when someone sends you a cold email, what aspects of their resume/email would make you feel more inclined to respond?

I respond to everyone because I don’t get that many cold emails and with wfh it helps break up my day (I want to be a career banker so I chose my group for the culture/wlb so it’s not seen as a “top group” and my email doesn’t match my linkedin name which I think reduces the amount of emails I get a lot).

That said, I look at gpa (3.5+), interests, and for some activity that doesn’t look like it’s just for adding to your resume (looking for a sport, retail job, legit volunteering, an interesting club, Greek life etc). I personally don’t like working with hardos and there’s nothing worse than talking to a kid whose dream since middle school was to be in banking. Looking for someone who can pass the airport test. I also put very little weight on freshman finance internships and pre college finance stuff (while you might claim you built the model from scratch and we’re the reason the deal got done, I doubt it).

If a non finance/econ major, looking for some demonstrated interest in banking/finance (finance internship, investment club, women in business, econ/finance minor, etc).

BC is a great school and will give you great opportunities. You have your whole post-college life to be miserable (joking, of course), but this reminds me of those "Do I leave the role I like for one that might pay a little more" type of questions - if the change isn't too substantial (i.e., by “substantial change” I mean going from non-target to target, 40% comp increase, etc.), you are taking a risk with not that much payoff. Enjoy BC, man!

Wdym top job possibilities?  I dont care about going to PE out of undergrad, but is it possible to network into Qatalyst/Evercore/PJT from a non-core school?

you just said ur interested in Rx and then mention Qatalyst??? Lol what

BC is fine and your ROI of transferring would only be worthwhile for top top targets like H/S/W/Y. Anywhere else n its not worth (speaking from a pov from a so-called "target" that WSO loves to obsess over.)
