Do Graduate Schools Look for Specific Majors?

Hey WSO,

I'm a senior in high school and am heading to Northeastern University next year to major in Finance and possibly double major in Finance and Economics. Currently, I am set to pursue a BSBA but may change to BSIB, which is a focus on international business where I would learn a foreign language and spend an expatriate year abroad.

I have plans to go to graduate school one day to obtain my MBA. Although Northeastern isn't considered an elite school, I hope one day to go to a top MBA program.

How do graduate schools consider what you studied in college? Would I be better suited to minor in a hard science or math to gain more quantitative skills, or would a major in Finance or dual concentration in Finance and Economics give me the necessary quantitative skills? Also, because Northeastern isn't considered elite or prestigious, will this hurt my chances of getting into a top graduate program?
