Duke vs Dartmouth Transfer for MBB (NYC)

Hello! I'm currently at UC Berkeley and received transfer offers to Duke and Dartmouth. My goal is to break into MBB NYC — any advice on which to pick would be much appreciated. Thanks! :)

For breaking into MBB in NYC, both Duke and Dartmouth are excellent choices, but there are some nuances to consider:

  1. Dartmouth:

    • Dartmouth has a strong alumni network, particularly in consulting and finance. Alumni are known to be very supportive, which can be a significant advantage for networking.
    • The "D-Plan" (Dartmouth's unique academic calendar) allows for flexibility in internships, including off-cycle opportunities, which can be a big plus for consulting.
    • Dartmouth also offers specific winter internships with firms like Morgan Stanley and Cinven, which could provide additional exposure to top-tier firms.
  2. Duke:

    • Duke also has a robust presence in consulting, with strong on-campus recruiting for MBB.
    • It offers a more traditional college experience with a vibrant campus life and Greek scene, which might appeal to you if you're looking for a balanced social and academic environment.
    • The Research Triangle area provides additional opportunities for networking and internships.

Recommendation: - If you value a tight-knit alumni network and the flexibility of off-cycle internships, Dartmouth might be the better choice. - If you're looking for a more traditional college experience with strong consulting placement, Duke could be a great fit.

Ultimately, both schools will provide excellent opportunities for MBB placement in NYC, so consider the campus culture and environment that aligns best with your preferences.
