Economics Degree from Notre Dame?

Hey what's up guys,

I am new to this forum and not that well acquainted with the whole ib stuff, so please bear with me.

So, as a high school senior who simply wanted to get into a school with a "good name value," (I know it sounds dumb, and now that I look back, I realize how foolish I was) I didn't really care about what major I should pursue - all I literally cared about was getting into a good college. So I applied to Notre Dame as an economics major (I didn't even know Mendoza existed lol) and got in. This summer break, I have been having some thoughts about the careers I wanted to pursue, and as an international student, I came to a conclusion that there would be no better career than to be in the investment banking business as an analyst or some sort.

Now the problem is, Notre Dame only accepts a handful of internal transfers to Mendoza through an extremely competitive transfer process. So right now, I am basically set to just have a major in economics and maybe a supplementary major in Political Science- will that be fine enough for me to get a job in IB (saying I have a good enough GPA)? Or will that put me at a major disadvantage since I wouldn't have a degree from a Business Undergrad?

Thanks guys, I appreciate all your help.

From what I have seen, the Mendoza transfer process is not overly competitive. If you maintain a good GPA freshmen year (~3.6-3.7), you should not have a problem transferring into Mendoza. Regardless, an Econ/Pol Sci double major would still set you up well for recruiting as long as you keep your GPA up

The transfer process is not as difficult as cracked up to be, but you will still need to maintain a solid GPA and show interest in Finance. PM if you want more info

you'll be fine if you do stuff as if you're in. I'd try a minor in Mendoza for insurance / good excuse in their loop, and dont take no biz major as inferior at all. flip it and you see there is no one chasing polisci major in mendoza.

Most of the Ivy’s don’t even offer finance. Econ is considered GE discipline finance is built on. I would guess there more Econ majors on wall st than finance majors.

That being said you can certainly take a bunch of Econ and business classes thru Mendoza without majoring in business.

I didn't "accidentally" get into Notre Dame. Notre Dame has always been one of my dream schools because of its emphasis on faith (yes I am Catholic) and its academic reputation. Coming from a Catholic high school, I've always sensed there was something special about ND when I heard about the school spirit and the experiences some of the graduates who went to ND had. But I was just oblivious and careless about my choice of major when I was applying.

But having received some helpful guidance in this discussion, I think I will take a shot at the internal transfer process, which I am now perceiving is not that really difficult if you just have a solid GPA freshman year. Worst case scenario, if I don't get into Mendoza, seems like it won't hurt to just stick with the econ/ps plan.

Thank you all for your help!!!!!!
