Fighting against a prereq
Currently and undergrad finance major. Recently added finance to my degree plan, as I am a dual major. My school requires financial management as a prereq for corporate finance. As an econ major as well, I have knowledge of markets etc, but in hopes of prepping for my SA at BB i am hoping to take corporate finance. Clearly the topics would help any position. My school is refusing to listen to my request for a subjective review of allowing me to take the class concurrently with its prereq. I was wondering if any of you have haf similar issues and how they might have been resolved? Would I be wrong in going to the top of the chain asking for an exception. Not only do I have a 3.96, but being at a non target my BB internship can be a big step for the school, I would assume they would want their students displaying the highest potential of human capital that can be accredited to the dept and school
Bro, it doesn't matter, your summer analyst position is more about your writing skills because you're going to be up all night making pitchbooks.
^ Word. As a summer analyst they stuff they have you do depends on your skill level and their trust in you to be able to do it. They aren't going to have a SA do something of dire importance like number crunching and building a model. You'll just be doing power points and writing company profiles and shit.
Having knowledge of CF would definitely help him during the recruiting process (interviews) and also during his daily activities (understanding what is going on helps your credibility, even if you just have to copy and paste things). Unfortunately, I've just experienced this kind of issues while I was on exchange abroad and they were pretty strictly with it. Can't you try to talk with the head of the program? Maybe you can try to ask if you can attend the course but sit for the exam only once you have passed financial management. This would give you the knowledge you need for your interviews. Btw, I would not go there saying that you are a top notch student who wants to be an investment banker and if you are successful in it he school would have some benefits. You should probably just state that this little adjustment would help you during the interview process since they are smart enough to understand that it would be a win/win situation.
You don't have to take the class to learn the material. OP could learn the coursework on his own time and still be able to speak on it during an interview or during the SA stint. It's not like a resume reviewer is going to see that he's taken the class and automatically move him into another pile, anyway
Exactly - look up the syllabus online and buy the textbook (you'll need it eventually anyways) and learn the material on your own if you think the knowledge will help you that much. Recruiters won't care if it's on your transcript.
