Have a good laugh at my answer to adcom
Please critique after laughing....
Walk through your background.
-I graduated from NUS with a 2nd upper honours in finance, after which I joined MOE as a teacher for the past 2 years.I am good with people. I managed to get my class to work for me and in the end we achieved 100% passing rate and 40% distinction for N-level. I am also analytic. I managed to pass all 3 levels of CFA in one try and scored a 750 for GMAT
Why you want to pursue MAF program at this moment?
-I am going to leave teaching after my 3-year bond, which ends in Dec 2013. So this is the best time for me to get into the course. I am very determined to enter the finance industry.
Why you want career switch? How do you know about finance?
-My current job as a teacher no longer challenges or inspires me. When I begin teaching a new course, I enjoy preparing materials and planning the lesson, but after the second or third time teaching the same course, it becomes very repetitive. Although I know working in the finance industry is tough and I may even have to take a pay cut when I enter the industry, I am determined to do it as I find it very challenging.
Your current work
-I am a secondary school teacher teaching Principles of Accounts and Mathematics. I am in charge of NCC in my school.
What do you think of MAF program? What do you want to learn in SMU?
- I am excited to learn some practical industry knowledge from the likes of Prof David Lee
-In term 2, excited that there is a financial modelling course. Knowing how to do financial modelling is something important.
-I have the option of studying in MFE or MAF programs. As I hope to work as a research analyst, I believe MAF is more relevant
-Especially attracted by the attention I will get from my lecturers in the Seminar style teaching.
How do you see yourself in short-term and long-term?
-After I graduated from SMU, I hope to become a research analys. I will work hard to be promoted to portfolio manager. The primary reason is to challenge myself and develop a career that I will find personally satisfying and inspiring.
Any question for me?
1. how many percentage of graduates who managed to get into financial industry?
2. does the program teaches latest update like eurozone crisis?
3. Insead recently started a master in finance program. How much will it affect me by the time I graduated from the MSC?
Anything you need to highlight?
Do you have time to study?
-Yes.
-Usually work is from 7-4. I can manage with 4-5 hrs of sleep every day.
Knowledge & Interest in Relevant Issues
You got a 750 on the GMAT and you're trying to go to SMU? I don't think you even have to answer the adcoms questions and you'll be accepted.
The Original Poster is from Singapore. He's applying to the Masters of Applied Finance from Singapore Management University and he graduated from National University of Singapore.
^^In case anyone was confused^^
You would make more money as a teacher?
Not much to laugh at. A pretty vanilla interview. You should be good to go.
A pay cut to switch from being a teacher to finance? What?
I don't know but in my country civil servant earn quite okay. My pay is about USD3800 monthly now, after working for 2 years. If I quit, I am afraid that the starting salary for masters graduate is USD3000+. (Btw, the president earns $3.5 million USD annually)
Is there anything which I can change to improve my chance of getting in?
What is going on? 4500? 3.5USD? You need to throw on some zeros our move out of Uzbekistan.
What do you expect? he's an asshole, like all people from uzbekistan
