Help me choose a school for my daughter!
Dear Wallstreetoasis,
My high achieving daughter (Deerfield/Andover/Loomis) is extremely interested in Investment Banking (maybe PE, but believe that its not as prestigious), but only at top firms like JPM, UBS, and GS.
To set her up, we are considering a couple of schools. Currently, it is between Cornell College (IVY), Columbia College (IVY), IU Pennsylvania (My friends have told me about the powerhouse "Kellley Program"), and UIUC (apparently a "target school" according to my buddy).
These are all amazing options, but we want to choose the best school for her to get into the top banks. Open to suggestions on others we could call the admissions office for her. What do you guys think?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:
For top-tier investment banking roles at firms like JPMorgan, UBS, and Goldman Sachs, attending a "target school" is crucial. These schools have strong alumni networks, on-campus recruiting, and a proven track record of placing students into prestigious banks.
Breakdown of Your Options:
Cornell University (Ivy League)
Columbia University (Ivy League)
Indiana University (Kelley School of Business)
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)

Additional Suggestions:
If you’re open to other schools, consider these top target schools frequently mentioned in WSO threads: - University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) - Harvard University - New York University (Stern) - Duke University - University of Michigan (Ross)
These schools have consistently strong placement into bulge bracket banks and private equity roles.
Final Advice:
Encourage your daughter to focus on networking, internships, and maintaining a high GPA, regardless of the school she chooses. These factors, combined with attending a target or semi-target school, will significantly boost her chances of landing a role at a top investment bank.
