How limited are your choices if you have a 700+ GMAT and a 2.5 GPA (for Masters in Accounting)

I've decided that I'd like to come out of the wood work of entrepreneurship and sales, and will begin to apply for Masters in Accounting either in the coming year or next year. I've taken the GMAT and got a 720 and considering retaking for 740+.

I also have three years of experience in risk analysis (insurance, legal, compliance) as well as tech sales and entrepreneurship things.

How limited will my chances be for Master's programs (considering UTDallas (alumnus), UNT, or even online options).

Are there any online options worth their salt for getting a local (Dallas) tax associate position? Or would in class be better.

It's a long shot but you are well above the average GMAT (656) for Texas's T-MPA program, however it is the number one program in the nation. UT would GUARANTEE a Big 4 job in Dallas. I doubt your options are limited!

Thanks for the advice!

I think you can aim a lot higher with 3 years of work. 2.5 hurts the most with the least experienced. 3 year wipes it away even without an alt transcript.

Don't worry about that, own the problems that led to your GPA and write a 3 sentence note in your additional essay.... and then you should have you head high and apply to the most competitive ones out there.

You looking to do M&A? Your background looks like that. A masters in accounting is really oriented towards the tax / audit people looking to get their credit hours.

I'm not sure if the masters in accounting will help you get where you need to go.

If you want to do the risk analysis, look for some sort of program heavy on modeling.

If you're going into the legal / financial m&a stuff, why not look at a JD-MBA?

You should not have an issue getting into a good small Masters in Accounting program. Just explain the GPA as not realizing your "passion" etc. and then show them you're serious with your 700+ gmat score. From my experience (I took some mpac project management courses as electives in my mba), the masters in accountancy programs were more flexible on who they accepted.

Apply away and let us know what happens!
