I'm so confused guys, need help. (MFE or MBA or MAcc or MSF)
Hey I need some head sorting on what I want to do with my life.
I am 26 years old, I have a 3.2 UGPA from a total non target, and I have three years experience in the financial field. I did M&A as an intern for a small shop for one and a half years, and then I was a financial Advisor for Merrill for one and a half years, and now I just started working at a prop shop in Manhattan.
I know that to get a shot at the big boys, like UBS, Goldman, Merrill, etc. I need to go get a masters and that from a top school as well.
What I dont know is which way I want to go because I have interests in every which direction.
I enjoy math, and programming and would love to learn more delve deeper into the fundamentals of algo trading. I am a trader now and I enjoy it very much, being a Quant trader seems very challenging and something I could see myself doing.
On the flip side the competition for Quant programs is strong and I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I worry about being able to handle all the math successfully. As they say know thy self. But in college I got A's only in my calc classes and everything else was B's and on maybe thats a sign.
I plan on taking some courses in math and programming, if being a quant is what I decide on. To show the ad coms that I am serious and capable of handling the work.
But the future of quants in wall street is a question mark, the landscape is changing so fast.
I also enjoy corporate finance and strategy and I can see myself eventually being a manager of a division, doing analysis on where to expand the production and where to cut back. Starting off as an accountant and hoping to be promoted up into the ranks of management at a corporation.
Thats where my bias toward the MAcc (masters in accountancy/CPA) come in, as well as there is a shortage of accountants and the path to a CFO is usually by first being a financial analyst.
I feel like the work itself will be easier to master, over heavy programming and math, and since the demand for accountants is larger than quants, a safer bet on being able to find a stable job, not only having to force myself into wall st, but F500 and F1000 need accountants and financial analysts increasing the pool.
The MBA, is something I would consider later, but I don't feel I have the work experience or the GPA to allow me to get into a top 20 school.
The MSF I feel doesnt really give me the benefit of a MBA or a MAcc.
In the end it comes down to two things really a MFE or a MAcc, and I cant decide which one will be a better choice.
Anyone else have this issue of being confused and then finding their answer?
Thanks
