Importance of Majors at Top Universities

Recently some people have voiced the opinion that to get the best opportunities, you should take more rigorous and quantitative majors. In particular, I’m trying to figure out the major I will pursue at UChicago. The easiest one would be Business Economics, where the more quantitative theoretical courses of the regular Econ and Econ with Data Science with Booth courses. However, some students there say that those who got the bests roles at BBs or EBs took regular Econ and maybe even double majored. Would business economics be a considerable disadvantage on the resume compared to a heavier major choice?

Would this be relevant for IB -> PE? I feel like those skills aren’t really used too much in those roles, is that correct? For hedge funds and stuff though I’m sure data science track is a must.

I don't know tbh I'm from a nontarget school you should wait for someone else to respond about that. But it gives you more options in case you want to do something else later or IB is too stressful etc.
