Incoming Post MBA Associate - PTO to stand in wedding

Starting at an EB in NYC this summer (tbd but prob early July). Two of my close friends are getting married and I’m in the wedding party. The first is getting married on a Sunday in Sept (rehearsal on sat) and the other on a Friday in October (rehearsal on thurs). These are both very soon after I hit the desk.

I know the stigma around PTO especially when you first start, so how bad is this going to look if I basically need to be MIA Sat and Sunday for the first wedding and then take PTO for Thursday and Friday for the second only a month later.

This shouldn't be a big issue. Other people's weddings are out of your control; a beach vacation is a different topic.

Don't go MIA obviously, communicate it early, and bring your laptop. Also, book your flights at a time that's not disruptive, i.e. early morning or evenings (if it's during a weekday). That way, you'll be available and responsive if need be. Depending on your group culture, you may want to think about ditching the Thu rehearsal dinner; ask someone trustworthy on your team.

Also, expect to work. You might not, but a positive surprise is better than a negative one.
