Is it possible to work in IB while doing PT MBA
Hi,
I work in credit risk in BB NYC office and recently accepted in Ross PT MBA.
I successfully pivoted myself into IB in my company. I wonder is it possible to do PT MBA while working as an associate in IB?
I would need to travel to Ann Arbor twice as month because the classes start at 3PM on Friday.
My goal is to do IB, and I am just not sure if I should accept the offer. I am not sure if I can handle the workload/hours while studying.
Any advice will be appreciated!
Hey Rainydog, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:

If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
If you're already in IB, why would you want to do a PT MBA now?
I am in credit risk not IB
You just said you pivoted into IB in your company.
"I successfully pivoted myself into IB in my company."
Why not network within your BB first? Perhaps just be more concentrated in your efforts. Guess it’s a bit late for that but you can definitely do the MBA assuming you currently work reasonable hours in CR and can make the 3pm start time on Fridays.
Yes, it's very doable
you think the hour is doable? That's the only concern I have for now..
what does hour is doable mean?
I did a Saturday exec program and there were a few IB folks. What I will say is that they didn't participate in a lot of activities/ classes so I don't think they got the "value" I got. However, these programs are cash grabs and will give you the degree as long as you keep paying and don't do absolutely nothing.
The flying out at that frequency will absolutely be something that might piss off your team, it may be worth having a discussion with the group that extended an offer to discuss.
Finally, ask yourself why you're going for the MBA. If you can't identify the value, it will be a waste of time.
Doesn't make sense to me if you already got an BB IBD offer and that was your target post-MBA. Ross is a decent school, but it's not even a top part-time program and you'd have to commute. It would be different if you were in SF and could do Berkeley or in Chicago and do Northwestern/Chicago. As someone above said, PT MBAs are generally just cash grabs. Good if your company is paying for it and/or you live in the city and don't have to commute. They're not great for career switching and they're also not as fun as a regular MBA, so they really only make sense for a specific subset of people.
