Is it worth going to study an Msc finance with no work experience in finance?

I am looking to study an msc finance in order to switch from my current career to one within finace. I have an engineering masters and work in O&G. This past year I have applied to countless jobs to no avail. I have been wanting to study an msc finance for some time as I believe it will give me the best opportunities, however I have one main question.

I am currently 23 (will be 24 in the summer) and don't have time to take the GMAT this year as I am sitting CFA level 1 in June. I reckon I could get into a semi target (Cass maybe) this year but would have no finance experience. Or I could wait a year, take the GMAT and try to apply for internships over next summer and head to a target school. However, then I will be 26 when I graduate, albeit I will have an msc finance and at least CFA level 1 (hopefully).

Thanks for reading this and any insight is greatly appreciated, as I am quite lost right now.

I was in a pretty similar situation. I decided to go the MSF route, and it has paid off. I'm at a nontarget in a relatively major city, and I got a buy side offer before graduating.

I could see the benefit of both paths. I would suggest going ahead just so you can start getting relevant experience because that's almost all that matters after you graduate anyway. That won't work unless you take a lot of initiative though. I could answer questions about the process.

JUST DO IT. Don't let your memes be dreams.
