Ivey vs Queens Commerce vs BC CSOM
Hi all, I'm an Asian international student and was recently accepted into Western Ivey AEO, Queens' Commerce and Boston College.
Granted I do not have US or Canadian citizenship, which of my options would give me the best opportunity to land a position in IB in the short term and move/remain in the USA in the longer term(say within 10 years)?
I am aware that the path to citizenship in Canada will be much more straightforward but I have heard that the Canadian job market is much more saturated and competitive(maybe I can be enlightened on this). I feel like BC would be a bigger risk (might have to leave if I don't win the H1B lottery while on OPT & some firms don't sponsor at all), but I would have a better experience in terms of academics and student life.
Thanks in advance
Edit: I also got into IU Kelley(direct admit + partial scholarship), Boston University Questrom and UofT Rotman. Not sure if those are worth considering at all.
As someone who is likely going to Kelley this fall, BC > Kelley > BU any dayyyy
Don't even consider Rotman lol
I also have it as an option (Victoria College). Is it that bad?
I would say if you want to be in the US go to a US school. This is coming from someone who went to Ivey, unfortunately for all Canadian universities the visa situation has gotten tougher and tougher each year and it’s only going to get worse imo. Fewer people are getting sponsored and those are the top kids at Ivey and Queens and most likely are Canadian Citizens themselves so it’s very different. I managed to break into the US but that was a while ago when evercore and moelis were taking 5-10 Ivey kids each lol. After 2018 things really went downhill in terms of US placements for Canadians just the reality of the situation. Hell you would honestly have an easier getting a sponsorship from the UK than from the US as a Canadian right now, at least I’ve been told that is the case. Congrats on the offers though!
Thank you so much! Would you say that most people at Ivey who seriously wanted a job in IB managed to land an offer in the end? I heard that pipelines are basically through WIC and the board positions there. I might just take the risk of the H1B lottery and sponsorship issues and pray that the Biden presidency changes things lol.
