KCL Vs. Cass
HI guys,
this is actually my first post here in the forum and I hope to get some help regarding my bschool decision.
I am currently in the last year of my bachelor and have applied for several ms finance programs for 2016 intake. So far I received offers from
RSM - MSc Finance and Investments
Kings College London - MSc Banking and Finance
Cass Business School - MSc Quantitative Finance
I won't take RSM so I am now struggeling between Kings and Cass
1) The program - Quant Finance Vs Banking and Finance
I am coming from a bachelor in business administration with major in finance and currently taking CFA. Taking that into account I guess the MSc in Banking and Finance would be quite straight forward and I could get a very good grade.
On the other hand I could enhance my skills much further with the msc in quantitative finance, especially in terms of programming, matlab etc, but its gonna be a pain as, most people in the program come from math/physics background and I am afraid the final grade might suffer on my lack of quant skills
2) University vs Business School
Comparing Cass with Kings is like comparing apples with oranges. Cass is a pure business school, which is ranked #20 worldwide in the financial times. Kings is a research university, which is ranked #19 worldwide in the QS ranking and which includes many notables alumni such as 12 Nobel laureates and many heads of states.
Having said that, Kings is obviously more prestige, while I guess it has fewer connections to the financial industry, especially since the MSc Banking and Finance is a new program and I gonna be in the first ever class.
I would very much appreciate some opinions regarding the two schools. And yes I am very well aware of the fact that oxbridge, UCL, LSE and Imperial are better but I have offers for KCL and Cass.
Thank you very much guys!!
Go with Cass Business School for the simple reason that it has been in the industry for quite some time and the alumni network is really strong. KCL has recently introduced the program so you don't wanna risk it. It will definitely be good but you dont want to risk your 25000 GBP just based on prestige. If this program was there for a while, then you could get a clearer picture, but at the moment I dont think its worth it. Quality of education is same mostly everywhere in the UK. In the end, its how good you are at what you do. I have known a couple of people from Imperial and they are jobless. So, reputation doesnt really matter unless you are in the TOP of the class in an Oxbridge, Harvard, Stanford, etc. Cheers and best of luck with your decision. Hope this helped :)
