King's College London VS UIUC

Hi all,

I'm super new here and to all of this but I was hoping for some advice. I'm currently studying Mechanical Engineering at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (semi-target), and I've completed my first year already. I'm trying to get myself more into the finance world and haven't really got much sorted out but I wanted to know what a better way to get myself started would be.

I'm not really a fan of being in a big public school like UIUC, especially where I'm so confined to a little town - I come from a big city. I didn't really enjoy my first year -and its not a social thing, its more of a mental block for me I guess. But overall, I'd be much happier in a city like London, NYC etc and I've just got an offer from KCL to study Electronic Engineering with Management. It's not a great course at KCL, but I feel I'll have a much better time overall in terms of networking and as a stepping stone in the future. I'm an international student and I have to take that into consideration too, since the UK is getting harder and harder to get jobs in.

Please do let me know what you think I should do. Should I complete my time at UIUC or should I go into KCL? Thanks!

It's up to you. You're effectively going from one semi-target to another, but with the added benefit of that other semi being in a financial hub.

Was obsessed with finance, now do product in tech

Full disclosure i went to UIUC - but being an engineer at UIUC should give you way more opportunities both finance wise or other compared to Kings College. I know engineers from there who went Bain/McKinsey/IB/S&T/Tech and Chicago is roughly 2 hours away. But if you dont like the school than nothing much else you can do and should transfer instead of being unhappy.
