Lack of S&T Summer Associate Programs in London?
I have over a year of experience on a fixed income sales desk and I am looking to take a Msc Finance or MBA (undecided but leaning towards MFin) in the UK - think LSE, LBS, Oxbridge, etc. I took a look at a few BB career sites and it seems there is a lack of London summer associate programs for S&T (there are a ton in the US though). It seems only summer analyst programs are available. What gives? Does this mean I have to start at the analyst level again if I get masters? Or am I mistaken and there are many S&T summer associate opportunities in London available for graduate students?
A lot of banks in london have stopped their summer associates programs for IB for awhile now, so s&t has taken a hit as well
most of mfin students at LSE/LBS/Oxford usually start as an SA or ft analyst after graduation - the mfin program in the uk is for pre-experience students (max 2 years), usually for students right out of undergrad in the uk and can be seen as if it were a 4th year in a us uni (obv. its not an apples to apples comparison, but you get the idea)
Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know why the summer associate programs in London were stopped? I'm only seeing summer associate programs for IB and only for a few banks.
So if I do a mfin at LSE/LBS/Oxbridge, I'll restart as a 1st year analyst? Even though I have over a year of experience in sales? Lets say I get an offer and it's the S&T not IB. Or do you know if anyone has gotten in at A2?
I'm not sure why banks have discontinued a lot of their summer assoc programs except for a few big ones (MS is one of them i think)..
If you do a mfin, you'll most likely be starting as A1 if not an SA first - most ppl in mfin who have no previous IB SA experience will start as a SA then convert to a FT analyst. There are quite a few people who have 1-2 years work experience in the mfin program as well and from what I've heard, they are clumped into the rest of the class and start at a1 as well
note: progression might differ based on their experience but not 100% sure for mfin programs. for an MBA at least, have seen those with 5 years experience go into Associate after MBA then promoted to VP within the year due to their unique experience - same with consulting
That's a bummer. Was specifically targeting London as it seems grad school is typically 1 year in the UK while 1 year mfin/mba programs in the US don't allow for summer internships. Thanks!
Sorry to hijack this thread. I worked at BB IBD but I want to switch to another sector team. Internal mobility did not work for me and I moved to an MM PE (still covering same sector though).
I have 3 years experiences (2 at BB + 1 at my PE). Can I still do a master program and apply for A1 if there is no associate program available? I am afraid I won't get any interview for being overqualified.
Why not get an MBA? With your background you'd be a shoe-in for MBA business schools">M7 and have a good shot at HSW given good GPA + GMAT..
