LBS MFA Requirements

Hello all,

I am thinking of applying to LBS MFA. Studied in LSE, have boutique IB experiences, 99th percentile in GMAT. The big flaw in my application would be my undergraduate classification. Would that result in an automatic rejection? Would the GMAT help overlook my poor undergrad?

Would really love some opinions on the matter and what do you think I should do to get into LBS? Happy to share more.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about applying to the LBS MFA program:

  1. Undergraduate Classification: While a weaker undergraduate classification can be a concern, it is not necessarily an automatic rejection. LBS values a holistic application, and other strong components can help offset this flaw.

  2. GMAT Score: Your 99th percentile GMAT score is a significant advantage. LBS places a strong emphasis on GMAT performance, and a high score can demonstrate your intellectual capability, helping to mitigate concerns about your undergraduate performance.

  3. Work Experience: Your boutique IB experience is another strong point. LBS appreciates candidates with relevant work experience, especially if you can frame it as leadership-oriented or impactful in your application.

  4. Recommendations and Essays: Strong academic or professional references and well-crafted essays can further strengthen your application. Use these to highlight your achievements, leadership potential, and how the MFA aligns with your career goals.

  5. Networking and Fit: LBS is known for nurturing leaders and values candidates who fit into its collaborative and ambitious culture. Engage with alumni or current students to better understand the program and reflect this understanding in your application.

Recommendations to Improve Your Chances:

  • Address the Undergraduate Classification: Use your essays to explain any context behind your undergrad performance (e.g., challenges faced, improvement over time) and emphasize how you've grown since then.
  • Highlight Strengths: Focus on your GMAT score, work experience, and any extracurricular or leadership activities that showcase your potential.
  • Secure Strong References: Ensure your recommenders can vouch for your abilities, work ethic, and potential to succeed in a rigorous academic environment.
  • Engage with LBS: Attend webinars, connect with admissions officers, and participate in events to demonstrate your interest and commitment.

Your profile has strong elements, and with a strategic approach, you can present a compelling application. Good luck!

Yeah I am definitely going to be applying. Wanted to know whether my profile would be instantly rejected etc. on the app process since I am worried about my undergrad grades. Looks like you answered my question so I really appreciate it.

I had a weaker profile and I got interview, you shouldn't be worrying too much. At this point what you should do to get into LBS is simply to apply as early as you can

I see. I think I'm just trying to lower the risk as much as possible. Probably just paranoid but thanks a lot for the info
