M7 Full Time MBA or PT ~15 Ranked MBA + Acquiring a Small Business

Hello WSO,

I wanted to get the community's thoughts on an idea: instead of doing a full time MBA (around M7 rank), what if I bought a small business (~1-2M rev) and did a part time MBA (top 15ish) simultaneously? I know capitalizing the acquisition could be tricky etc, but I'm really looking for commentary around the career implications of essentially trading a stronger MBA brand and full time MBA for a part time MBA and 3 years of operating experience.

I've recently been doing a lot of research into Search Funds and entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA), and ultimately think that is more or less the path I want to go down. The traditional way to do that is top MBA -> 1-2 year search -> start running business, but I don't like the idea of waiting 4-5 years from now before I'm actually in an operating role. But, I also don't want to let me impatience steer me towards making a short sighted career decision, and should probably wait if I'm better of getting an M7 MBA and the network, brand name, etc. that comes with it.

Thoughts? Thank you!
