M7 MBA - Is there any chance for me realistically to do an MBA in M7 (pref H/S/W) ?
Did my B.Com (Business Management) from India (stood 2nd in my batch), went on to pursue a Masters in one of the target UK unis (Oxbridge/ LSE) in History (graduating with a distinction). Even in India, and in the UK, continued to work part-time in an extremely esoteric industry (something closely related to physical commodities). Worked in India part-time for 1.5 yrs during undergrad and 1 year in the same company's UK HQ. Will be working FT in their India outpost for 8 months before moving to their Singapore office after that stint. My plan is to do CFA and apply to M7 in about 4 years after the Spore experience.
The company itself is probably second biggest name in the sector and blue chip within the sector, recognised by all of the participants in it. But the industry itself is very niche and the company is very small, abt 200 employees worldwide and less than 10k LinkedIn followers. My point is whether this kind of international experience is enough for entry into H/S/W?
I'm reasonably certain that I'll be able to weave a story around my eclectic educational background and my passion for the industry but I am not entirely sure whether this work experience or my education is prestigious enough. The common opinion across forums appears to be that you need to have work experience at extremely popular (F500) companies or your father needs to donate a building, neither of which I have. The Indians in M7 are almost exclusively from IITs or have MBB/ IB experience or are sons/ daughters of billionaires, is not having those things a deal breaker? What should I be doing to make my profile more attractive to H/S/W?
I plan on getting into IB post MBA (which I reckon would be a bit easier with a M7 MBA under my belt?), the only reason I see for doing this is to build enough credibility to raise money to be a principal in the aforementioned esoteric industry sometime in distant future. IB then PE and hopefully striking out on my own. I have been told by various people within the industry that IB & PE post MBA gives you enough credibility and network to raise money required to get into such an industry. The path has been trodded upon by many people in past.
