MBA Guidance (UK)

HI guys!

I had a rather pressing concern regarding my university. I'll be attending a uni in the UK (London) but it might not be a target and I might end up going to CASS or Queen Mary. I had 2 questions in mind and would hope all the info I can get.

1. Can you recommend the best non-targets for IB in the UK.

2. If I end up going to a uni like Cass (city) and then do an MBA for a uni like Oxford or LSE as soon as I graduate will I end up getting an Associate IB position or an Analyst? I know that getting an MBA does lead to promotion from an analyst to an associate in the US, but what is the situation for the UK. I ask this because a UG degree in the UK is for 3 years and a master's is for 1 year, while a total of 6 years in the US. Won't this be more advantageous for UK students since they save 2 years and already end up as an associate? Please do let me know about this.

Thank you so much!

I will answer your #2

If you graduate with a Bachelors degree - You start a position of Analyst in IB.

If you graduate with a Masters degree - You start as an Analyst as well.

If you graduate with an MBA - You start as an Associate.

Now - from your post it seems like you know this, so why am I repeating it? Because you are missing one key element - WORK EXPERIENCE. If you had to get an MBA at LBS or Oxford or Cambridge (LSE does not have an MBA) - you need to have a certain amount of work experience after your bachelors degree before you can get admitted to the program. Example: Average work experience for someone pursuing an MBA at LBS is 5.7.

Now this is how a traditional route looks like:
Bachelors -> IB Analyst
Bachelors -> Masters -> IB Analyst
Bachelors -> Work 5 Years -> MBA -> IB Associate
Bachelors -> Masters -> Work 5 Years -> MBA -> IB Associate

So you see - it's not as simple as get your Bachelors degree, get your MBA and boom you skip everyone and become an Associate. You have to have work experience to attend these target MBA schools.

Also there are some "Masters" degrees that require work experience as well - i.e. LBS MFIN. LBS MFA on the other hand does not require work experience.
