MBA: Johnson ($$$) vs. Darden ($$) for IB
Hi everyone,
I’m an international admit deciding between Darden and Cornell Johnson for Investment Banking recruiting.
• I received a larger scholarship from Cornell.
• My partner preferred Charlottesville, and I really liked the sense of community and proximity of housing there (especially with a newborn), I can easily walk to class.
• However, I know Cornell has a strong IB immersion program and very solid placement, but also competition should be higher.
• I feel Darden would prepare me to be a better-rounded professional beyond banking, but I’m unsure how non-American IB recruiting has been there recently.
Would love to hear from anyone familiar with recent recruiting trends for internationals at both schools, and whether Darden’s IB pipeline has grown stronger lately.

Recommendation
If IB is your clear, long-term goal, Cornell Johnson is likely the better choice due to its specialized program and stronger placement in the field. However, if you value a balanced lifestyle, broader professional development, and a supportive community for your family, UVA Darden could be a great fit, especially if you’re willing to put in extra effort to network for IB roles.
