Med School + MBA to PE?

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get your thoughts about the hypothetical possibility of breaking into PE for someone in my situation. For context, I'm currently a second year student at a medical school with an affiliated M7 MBA program, which I will pursue as part of a combined program. I know there are already many posts here about nonclinical paths for medical graduates but they tend to skew towards things like recruiting directly into consulting. I'd appreciate some input about the chances of pivoting during the MBA and recruiting directly into a PE associate position.

I understand the consensus is that recruiting into PE investing roles from an M7 program is quite difficult/unlikely without prior experience, and I clearly will not be following the established 2 year IB -> PE path. I have limited deal experience as an intern (think independent sponsor/searchfund in the LMM space - I know it may not add a lot outside of branding, but fortunately I was brought on post-LOI so I was able to be involved moreso with modeling than just sourcing).

If I head to MBB first, one consideration I've heard is that it can be harder to exit into PE investment side as opposed to operations. Would it still be the most realistic option for me nonetheless? Or would there still be some merit in trying to leverage what I can out of my background to aim for something like smaller firms or healthcare focused boutiques? Interested because I do know there are some physicians who've found success in the PE space. If anyone has ideas, I'd really appreciate it!
