MFIN at Cambridge/Msc Financial Economics at Oxford/ MBA at Oxbridge
Anybody that has done an MFIN at Cambridge, MSc in Financial Economics at Oxford or an MBA at Oxbridge. How was your experience doing the degree at that uni? What are your stats and experiences? Did you enjoy it?
I looked into those options awhile back. My takeaway was MFIN / MFE if you’re <1.5yr out of undergrad and MBA if more than that. Oxford MFE seems solid
Can't comment much on Said, but I could share my 2cents on the two programs at Cambridge Judge as I did my MBA there.
First of all, the two MBA programs and Mfin at Judge all require some work experience to apply but I don't think MFE at Said requires any. Given your post, I assumed you have a few years of exp. The reason why this matters is because they will place you into different roles for recruitment (associate level vs analyst level). To put it more simply, you can view the Mfin at Judge as somewhat MBA equivalent and MFE as comparable to Mphil in Finance at Judge.
Second, at Judge, MBA offers a lot of "fluffy" classes, like corporate governance, negoation labs, organization behaviors, etc. whereas the classes in Mfin are very dense on finance, very quantitative. If you only have about 2 years of expiernce and are deadset on finance, Mfin is the better option. However, if you wanna start a business, go up the corporate ladder route, or become a project manager type. MBA would be the better option. As opposed to that of the programs in the U.S., the average age for Oxbridge MBAs is higher so you will encounter people from various and unique background and people in different life stages.
Lastly, I could be biased, but I jsut like Cambridge better than Oxford. Like other people have posted on this forum, Oxford was town built before the the university whereas Cambridge is town built around the university. At Cambridge, everyone I've met are very smart, humble, and sincere.
I also have a friend who have done both Oxford MBA and Cambridge Mfin and I could share his view. Feel free to pm.
Thanks for the detailed description. it would be great if you can share more details of your friend re MFin. I have got this one as an option but really unsure whether it is worth money/time investment or it is much better to go for quant finance programs in US Schools/Oxford MCF (mb even LSE).
Would be interesting to learn job prospects as well as how the program is perceived by people in London and across the world ( Cambridge is a big name undoubtedly but Judge and MFin aren't that famous. Also I've seen a bunch of messages here and on other forums from people who claim to be MFin students and who regret going for it.
