Mim vs mba - insead vs Imperial vs cranfield...

Hello,

I graduated in engineering four months ago and I am looking to shift towards roles in strategy (BCG, Bain, etc.), or in management, innovation, and transformation in the industry, with the objective of eventually taking on leadership and executive positions. I had the opportunity, at a young age, to lead projects worth several tens of millions of euros.

I have been admitted to several academic programs and would greatly appreciate your advice on the best path to take, considering my ambition to work in Europe and the Middle East, while remaining open to opportunities in the United States, although that is not my priority.

Here are the programs I’ve been admitted to:

- MBA at Cranfield University

- Master in International Management (MiM) at INSEAD

- Master in International Management (MiM) at Imperial College (currently negotiating for an MBA)

- Harvard 2+2 Program (potential admission)

- Master PIC at HEC/École Polytechnique (Master in Project Management, Innovation, and considered equivalent to a final year at HEC)

I am wondering about the comparative value of an MBA versus a MiM. My initial preference leans toward an MBA to avoid having to pursue a MiM followed by an MBA later. However, I am questioning whether it would be better to prioritize a less prestigious MBA, such as Cranfield, over a MiM from a school like Imperial or INSEAD. What ranking would you give to these options?

Thank you in advance for your insightful advice.

Hi, I would go for Harvard 2+2 if you get admitted. Insead is more an MBA school and Imperial an engineering one. HEC go for their MiM their double degree is meah... Good luck!

Thank you for your advice. The MiM at HEC lasts two years, and I’m wondering if it’s really worth the extra time. It’s true that INSEAD is more recognized for its MBA, and their MiM only lasts one year. I’m questioning whether the gap in "prestige" and "opportunities" justifies spending an additional year on the HEC MiM.

Also, is there a significant difference between an MBA and a MiM that should push me towards choosing the MBA directly, or is it mainly an age-related difference, as the INSEAD admissions committee mentioned to me?

You absolutely 100% should not consider anything else other than Harvard.

MiMs are pre-experience programs that place you into the same bucket as undergrads.

Forget about the Cranfield MBA, very few (if any) of their alumni end up in consulting. If you want to do consulting in the UK their MBA is a non-starter
