MSF Program Decision
Hi guys,
First time poster here, I've been reading this forum for a while now but I know that all newbie questions probably sound alike so I apologize in advance. I am currently faced with a choice between Vandy MSF and Bentley MSF programs. Also threw in an app for MIT MSF, had an interview, but don't think I'll get in (don't think Big 4 exp is very relevant, so not much on my app besides good academics and basketball).
Quick background: I am an international student and came to the U.S. as a Junior in High School. Basketball was going to pay for my undergrad education and I had no clue what I wanted to do, so I picked the best academic school that I could play at. It's a good school in the South. However, it is a very small liberal arts school. I double majored in Finance and Accounting (Accounting strictly for job security and Visa purposes). Due to a change of plans I had to graduate in 3 years (thought that I would be tere for 5 for basketball) and didn't have time for job search/grad school apps. I ended up taking a 9 month intership at a Big 4. As my Visa is running out I don't have the option to find full time employment in time so I decided MSF would be a good way to go.
I would like to eventually get into the buy side of institutional investing. portfolio management at some level (mutual fnd, HF, PE, etc.) is the goal.
Vandy seems like a better and wider known school, but it is in the South, so I'm not sure how much of a drawback that would be for OCR? Bentley, on the other hand, has the better location and seems to be an up-and-coming program (heard from multiple Bostonians and some college professors that the program quality is prety good). I wanted to see what you guys think of the two programs in relation to AM?
Vanderbilt, without a doubt. Slam dunk decision.
Congrats on Vandy, you made a great decision.
Yeah, no decision to be made. Vandy all the way. Congrats.
You, Skip Bayless and Jay Cutler. Congrats.
vandy is your only good option here, stop thinking about this and take the offer
Thanks everyone for your input. I'll just wait another week (to get the boot at MIT officially) and take the offer from Vandy. I'll have a couple of months frewe after my internship. I've signed up for the CFA and plan to try and expand my limited network. Any other ideas on how I can help myself be more employable after graduation?
Deomix, I think Vandy is the right choice. I was admitted as well and am also waiting to hear back from MIT. Just one more week!
Seems like you have one year of eligibility left to join the basketball team haha. They do pretty good every now and then.
