NESCAC to IB but also consulting and finance in general?
Hi, I have read a lot of different posts on this forum and seen many different conflicting opinions. I was wondering if anyone either at one of these schools listed below or currently working in investment banking or consulting could answer.
I am a recruited athlete and considering applying to one of these schools:
Amherst
Bowdoin
Middlebury
It seems like Amherst is the best in terms of placement, however, I was wondering if someone could rank these schools. Within the rankings, how significant is the difference in placements? Furthermore, are any of the schools listed above more enjoyable for a college experience?
If you're an athlete at any of these schools, you honestly can't go wrong. CMC will be the outlier based on location (friends there recruited primarily for SF) but the tight-knit alumni will be great at any of these places. I would focus on fit.
I attended a NESCAC peer school that places very well at a few top tier BBs (MS/GS/Citi) in S&T and IB. Last year we placed 8 interns at one of those banks between IB and S&T, and all received returns for FT 2021. In these elite small LACs, you will most likely only have 20 or fewer peers with goals to work in IB, thus making the recruiting process significantly easier. Alumni are easier to reach and more willing to help, the OCR events are smaller and more intimate, and overall there is less peer competition.
Are there major differences in each of the NESCAC schools for recruiting?
If you NEED someone to rank these, I guess I'll do it
Placement into IB: Amherst >>> Midd >> Bowdoin
Placement into Consulting: Amherst >>> Midd > Bowdoin
Enjoyability: Bowdoin >> Amherst >> Midd

What makes Bowdoin way more enjoyable then Middlebury? Is the workload more manageable and grades more attainable? Is there another particular reason why it would be a better experience? Would you pick Bowdoin over Middlebury?
