Non target students, where are you now?
What industry did you pursue a career in, and how did your experience as a non target student affect your journey?

I think after 8-12 YOE I can’t complain but all got delayed by 4 years and I do not have the job.
I wanted (despite being more than ok role) I am in PM in alternative credit, got promoted relatively faster than some peers twice and fighting for one this year, so not terrible. But I still consider my self 4 years behind where I could be if I went to target school.
As of now my degree doesn’t matter at all in my current role/company but might still be an issue if I want to change (brand name still helps go through HR / screenings).
About to pursue an EMBA to get some network and add a name on the cv, with the goal of starting something mine or continue to grow internally, but the second option is super political.
Corp dev at a fortune 500 utility
Studied accounting at a no-name state school, worked at a Big 4 as an auditor and made my way into restructuring. I work the same hours as I did in audit but make 3x. Life is good
Are u in restructuring advisory or IB? also an auditor and feeling very stuck right now.
Ended up at a top bank and group (think GS TMT, WF ECM)
How did you get to where you are now?
Shoot me a dm
congrats on WF
I went to a non-target and never recruited for IB since didn't know what it was until after I graduated. I work in corporate FP&A at F500 company, and I am looking to get my MBA and recruit for IB in 2025 (3.3 YOE at matriculation, US Citizen, and Latin American)
Shooting for MBA programs that place better in CLT and Atlanta, so I'm not going for M7 and am instead targeting T20 programs with stronger regional presence.
Delayed a year, transferred schools, and went from no interviews to multiple offers at top firms.
There’s no point in going to a non-target if you can afford to go elsewhere.
what was your gpa that allowed you to transfer?
Would you mind if I shot you a message? I’m doing this exact move right now and was wondering about your experience
Started in IB coverage at a mid tier BB in London 13 years ago. Spent three years and then joined a Series C start up in a leadership role. Afterwards, I did some LMM PE right after bschool (i was an international student at a M7 MBA) for an year, returned back to banking for 6 months, and now doing Corp dev for an US$3bn market cap IPP focused on renewables. Hoping to move to infra investing
