Northeastern University- London

Hello everybody,

I hope you had a nice week so far. As we are halfway through March, I am receiving some college decisions, and I was recently accepted into Northeastern University, but their London Scholars Program. Essentially, students spend a year at a London campus before moving to Boston for their final 3 years.

How does this program sound if my goal is high finance? I know Northeastern isn’t super well-regarded, but I just want to gauge the view on something like this. I was thinking the 1-year in London could possibly be an interesting talking point or a good opportunity to make international connections, but that doesn’t seem like an equal reward to the cost of attendance. Also, just so you know, I am from America, so this would be a totally different society. I assume getting high-level internships in London is a lot harder than America because of how few spots there are, correct me if I’m wrong.

I still have a lot of college decisions left and expect to have more options, but let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Current Northeastern student here. You absolutely can break into high finance after a year in london. If you have a top notch gpa and good personal skills you can land a solid coop in your fall of junior year (they won’t let you do a spring coop after just one semester of boston if i remember correctly) then you recruit winter of junior year for summer before your 5th year (using the coop as great work 6month work experience which can land a top firm). This is the most sure bet for high finance but unfortunately due to the timeline you would do 4.5 years and graduate a year late. If you prefer to just grind for internships on your own (getting one for summer before sophomore year) and not delay graduation for the coop to be on resume by the time summer internship recruiting roles around that’s fine too. I’m lucky enough to have landed a great spot in 4 years without extending.

Also because of the money you will be making on co-op and your summer internship northeastern is less expensive than a regular 4 year degree even by graduating in 4.5 years, just to note.
