Online proctored exams in Britain?

Hi all,

I have a few British friends and one of them told me it's possible to study for A levels online during lockdown and they claim they did it last year. It got me kind of curious.

What exam centers offer online proctored exams in Britain, specifically for A-Level?

EDIT: Found it! It can even be done outside of Britain with the help of organizations such as the British Council overseas, however not all offer this specific service. It exists only in certain countries with severe lockdowns...

Haven't you guys ever heard of the British Council overseas?

Exams last year were called off and instead schools were allowed to use their own forms of examination. Some may have opted to do online tests.

Do you know which university schools offered this option?

A-levels are not specfically university entrance exams. They are standalone qualifications organised nationally by the UK government and offered by sixth form colleges. They are not done by universities.

You asked which universities offered this option, not which schools. There are thousands of schools in the UK, I don't know what each one decided to do for their exams as they were given complete autonomy in the decision. It is also very likely that as these were last-minute adjustments that each high school will do things differently this year. Every single school was given the option to do exams as they saw fit, some did online ones, some did written ones.

A-Levels are not university exams. You do them when you're 16-18. When you're still in high school.

Last year as far as I know most unis did online exams, some were open book, some were remotely moderated (or proctored if you prefer). No way anyone has a list of all unis doing the same this year lol. You'll have to ask current students and unis are changing their minds constantly.

It's my understanding A-levels are a requirement for UK university entry. Most UK universities require at least a minimum of 3 A levels, is that correct? You're right, most perform the exams for their A-levels in their youth when they're around 16 years old, but what about mature students? They obviously have to do it at an exam center somewhere either in person or attend a proctored exam online (virtually).

TopBoy.-

A levels are normally done at 18.

People do them at exam centres, not universities (unless a university has registered itself as an official GCE exam centre) I don't know any which are. You wouldn't ordinarily do a levels at a university to the best of my knowledge.

What exam centers offer online proctored exams in Britain, specifically for A-Level? I know a UK based exam center doesn't have to be at a university or school. It could even be in London but so far I haven't found one that offers online proctored exams specifically for A levels.

Okay, now I get what you're trying to ask. As it stands: 0. This year, A-levels are going to run as they did before 2020; as national exams (though, they said this last year too and ended up canceling them last minute leading to schools deciding how they would calculate grades.) As a result, no center will have the option to let candidates do examinations remotely as this was only offered by *some* schools during 2021. Every school made their own exams, this year they will one again be made by the government and administered normally as in-person written tests. Hope this helps.

This comment section is aggressively retarded.

Universities aren’t A-level exam centres, most if not none are registered/approved to offer them. Some high schools did online tests, private candidates probably went to an exam centre to do a written one. Many high schools also did this.

Universities aren't A-level exam centres

Nobody told you to read it the OP. As you already know, a UK based exam center doesn't have to be at any university or school, I don't know why you keep repeating Universities aren't A-level exam centres  in various troll accounts saying the same thing over and over again? Why you're so intent on trolling? I say whatever... live and let live. Merry Christmas from the other side of the pond from one Anglo saxon to another....

I can assure you I’m not TopBoy or Assoc 1, you literally said in one of your replies to them (which I read) as: which universities offer this. Universities can’t be exam centres as an exam centre is an official term that you need a license to become, they’re not just places where you do some form of exam. The reason people are bringing it up, is because you literally introduced it in the first place and then got confused.

The way you type makes me suspect you are not an Anglo Saxon, it’s too emerging marketsy. You’ve been given answers multiple times, you made the post convoluted and difficult for onlookers like myself to engage with: that’s on you.
You’ve been answered multiple times now, leave it at that.

In American English, school can also be a colloquially term for a university college but obviously his intent was an act of deception to start trolling me for whatever reason because he wanted to sabotage the OP.   I don't know why you have to assure anyone of anything other than defending trollish deception? Why bother? You must mistake me for someone who cares. Forgive me but it looks kind of suspicious. It's obvious Assoc 1 purposely convoluted his original post by vaguely mentioning "school" but he didn't specify exactly what he meant by that. I asked for clarity and instead I got trolled. He could have been crystal clear from the beginning by mentioning "high school" instead. However he chose not to do that and he is too embarrassed to login and edit his mistake. Apparently, so are you?
