Peace Corps Volunteer Chances

Hello y'all, I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in East Africa as a chemistry teacher. Originally from the rural Midwest, and would like to eventually return.

Experience:

Peace Corps Volunteer -Taught over 800 students and raised their national exam scores by 40% -Coached and mentored 120 teenage girls about sexual and reproductive health -Started community library and worked with 40 children to eliminate illiteracy -Begun community programs to teach budgeting, accounting, and entrepreneurship

School: -Small, Midwestern liberal arts college -Biochemistry and Philosophy majors -GPA: 3.86

GMAT: 750

24 year-old white male

Extracurriculars -Varsity tennis player -Head tennis coach of high school team -Nationally-ranked ethics debater -Volunteer EMT on rural service (on call every other night) -Mentor and math, history, and science teacher for at-risk high schoolers

Goal after MBA: growing up in a rural town and spending two years in a rural area in a developing country, I would like to enter consulting to gain the skills necessary to encourage rural investment and entrepreneurship.

Schools: thinking M7, but I want honest opinions about the feasibility.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Hi Dazedand Hungry Thanks for posting; congrats on the solid GMAT and extensive service work. I believe schools will appreciate your international and service experiences through Peace Corps and have seen various successful Peace Corps applicants over the years. That said many of them also have a couple of years of other experience too, so if you'll only have 2-3 years post undergrad solely in the Peace Corps, there's a chance it will be slightly more difficult for you... but overall I would say M7 is still not out of the question. Do highlight the experiences with the community programs teaching budgeting, accounting & entrepreneurship, and highlight all you've learned through teaching, living and working in these communities. Not sure what year/deadlines you are considering, but the more time you have to work on everything the better, and start thinking about who you'll ask for recommendations too. Keep us posted and good luck!
