Question about MFin..
I am a little confused on its purpose...
Can pursuing a top MFin get you out of the two year banking hell or is it just a way for state school kids (like me) to enter banking hell?
Doesn't having a master's degree make you a little overqualified for analyst work?
Its the second. No it doent make you overqualified, you just learn more technical stuff.
Nope. MFin's will put you smack dab in the middle of 1st year analyst recruiting. While you are slightly more qualified than kids straight out of undergrad, you are still WAY underqualified for an associate position.
This is painful, did you even run a search.. fuck.
Gonna have to disagree with both of the above. You most likely wont be an associate (that part I do agree), but it will open the door/allow you to focus on more quant. portions of finance (quant trading, quant HFs, etc.) You could always do this outta undergrad though, it is just harder and requires a little more self study for interviews (what I have been doing/going through all year).
In terms of placing into IB-then yeah, the difference is not as pronounced.
It won't allow you to jump right in as an associate...the way to do that is through an MBA. That being said, it still looks great and can teach you quite a bit.
Yes and no. I did a one-year masters and was able to jump directly to the buyside, but as as an entry level junior (associate) analyst. So yes I skipped 2 years of IB to get to the promised land, but thats also two years of positive cash flow I missed out on as well. I am still entry-level and in debt for grad school.
