Best MSc route for London IB with my profile: RSM F&I value play vs LSE/LBS/Bocconi?
Hi all,
I’m trying to decide which master’s route gives me the best realistic shot at breaking into London IB, ideally M&A or ECM, and would appreciate advice based on my specific profile:
- Nordic
- BSc International Business Administration from RSM
- Languages: English + one Nordic language; no Dutch, German, French, or Italian
- Work experience:
- Finance internship
- Boutique consulting internship in my home country
- IB internship at a global middle-market boutique in my home country
- I will have a 2-year gap between bachelor’s and master’s due to military service, IB internship(s), and GMAT preparation
- Goal: London IB, preferably M&A or ECM
- Backup / stepping-stone idea: get a Dutch IB internship first, then try to lateral / recruit into London
My main question is about my specific situation. Would RSM MSc Finance & Investments be the best value-for-money route if I want to try for a Dutch IB internship first and then move to London? Or, given my profile, would paying up for LSE/LBS/Bocconi/HEC/St. Gallen materially improve my London chances? I know LSE/LBS are top but expensive. Also aware Dutch IB is tough without Dutch (except maybe ABN/Rabo).
Also, how would the 2-year gap be viewed if it was due to military service, internship(s) and GMAT study?
Thank you!
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown of your situation and the best MSc route for London IB:
1. RSM MSc Finance & Investments (F&I) as a Value Play
2. LSE/LBS/Bocconi/HEC/St. Gallen
3. Your Profile and the 2-Year Gap
4. Recommendation
5. Additional Considerations
In summary, if you can afford it, LSE or LBS would be the best options for maximizing your chances in London IB. Bocconi and HEC are strong alternatives with slightly lower costs. RSM is a good value-for-money option but comes with limitations for London IB, especially without Dutch language skills.

RSM has one of the best value for money! I would go for it except if you have LBS/LSE or Oxford. Those really increase your chances the others less!
Thanks for the tip! Do you have any insight on how the 2-year gap year is viewed?
If it is justified by miliary service then no prob!
Rsm isn't really a target in London. If you have an IB internship and a consulting one already then just do lse/lbs or similar. You'll have much higher chances this way in landing a London role
What if I can't get into those schools? Would for example Imperial, Bocconi, ESCP, or ESSEC still be worth it over RSM?
I think you can get into LBS/LSE with your experience. Most of their cohort is international and doesn't have your level of internships so you'll be top candidate.
For master yes any from imperial escp Essec or bocconi would be easily worth it over RSM for London. Also gives you more than one alumni base to access, and higher chances to get screened
