Rice vs. UT Austin MBA
Hi All, I've been admitted to both schools for this fall. I receive 58K from Rice but money is not really an issue here. I currently work in internal consulting/corporate strategy and post-MBA goal is IB. As someone without any banking background, which one of the schools do you guys think is a better choice? I don't mind working in Texas post graduation but I don't have the desire to live in Houston forever. Thanks.
If money is not an issue, UT 100%. Big presence in the finance community, even outside of Texas
I'd say that since you don't want to live in Houston post-MBA and that money isn't a factor, McCombs is the better choice. Would you mind sharing/PM'ing your stats? I'm looking to apply to both programs next year.
I will say that Rice does seem to have an excellent program. I went to an info session a few weeks ago and was impressed with how well the event was coordinated. I've also talked to current students in the PT program and they absolutely love it. But again, if Houston doesn't appeal to you, probably best to choose McCombs.
If you are dead set on IB (which I caution you not to until you feel the recruiting prep first), you should do UT. If you wanna change your mind, UT is still probably better.
Rice is just fine but is not as much of a top 20 school in recruiter radars as a fact. the in-state dominance and short-term aspect of $ just makes UT still a leg up
Is there a big difference even for in-state recruiting? The impression I got from current students is that both schools are on equal footing.
From what I've seen, they are on equal footing. Lots of both UT and Rice associates in Houston IB.
