Should I transfer from a non-target (NC State) to a target?

Hey y'all
With transfer deadlines coming up soon I've been thinking I'm pretty sure I want to transfer to a target for either IB or Consulting and I wanted to see what you guys think. I currently am a freshman at NC State and our on-campus resources/recruiting are next to non-existent for these fields. I'm currently looking at Emory, Vanderbilt, NYU, Northeastern, and Villanova for next year for a variety of reasons (strong network, smaller size, etc) and wanted to see what you all think. Am I right to be leaving/thinking of moving to a target? Thanks in advance!

Of course it’s logical to want to transfer to a school if it will give you a significantly better chance to land the job you want. Is NCSU in-state for you? If so, why not UNC as an option? It would definitely be cheaper than Vanderbilt and it places decently on Wall Street

the size makes it somewhat of a turn off for me.

Aren't NCST and UNC pretty similar enrollment wise? Or are you actively seeking something smaller than you have now?

Echoing other posters, it can't hurt to toss an application towards UNC. If all else fails, UNC would still be a solid improvement to your brand, and I would think your chances of acceptance go up by being in-state.

If your goal is Consulting or IB, I wouldn't bother with Northeastern or Villanova. They're both good schools, but they're not targets so your OCR wouldn't be much better than NC State. I'll second the past above by saying you should look at UNC because they place onto the street. As for no guarantee to get into Kenan Flagler, if you can't work hard to get a 3.7+ GPA your sophomore year you won't be able to pass the GPA cutoffs for interviews anyway. I would also look at UVA, and have heard acceptance rate for transfers is higher than you'd expect at Cornell (though N=1 at Cornell so take it with a grain of salt)

Transfer to UNC.

KF isn't a guarantee but if you can't make it into KF then you have not a great shot of making it into a top IB/Consulting role to begin with. IIRC it's mostly based on GPA so if you can't make the gpa cutoff for KF you ain't making the cutoff for IB, etc.

Apply maybe to some reach targets like Cornell, Duke, or other schools that accept a decent amount of transfers but paying private school prices for Emory, Northeastern, Villa etc when you can get in state tuition at UNC is dumb dumb dumb
