Should I try for MBA?

I've been working HR for the last 5 years with a little finance sprinkled in(Nothing noteworthy). I have been considering an MBA in order to move into a career I can be happy with. I have my undergrad degree in Math from UCLA with an o.k. GPA. I've noticed on this forum people mentioning that being a minority can help in some cases so I can add that as a Latino.

With a good gmat score(700+), would it be possible to get into a top 25 school? Or even crack top 10?

I've read several "Can this resume get me into top## school?" posts and it seems that most of them have experience in the financial/banking/consulting fields. I am thinking that this will pretty much kill my chances of even top 50 school but I figured why not ask here?

What was your GPA?

700+ GMAT, plus decent work experience and recs, you should certainly be able to get into a Top-15 if you're GPA isn't too low. Latino will certainly help you. I'd be shocked if you didn't get into Duke/Darden/Ross level of school. Top 10 is possible too, but I'd need to know more about your profile. (e.g. What company did you work for? are you able to show leadership? Can you build a good "why mba" story?)

I think your over-estimating how hard it is to get into a top 25 school, especially with a 700 GMAT and a good undergrad degree. Top 25 schools like UNC have around a 50% acceptance rate, and many people are getting in with mid-600 level gmat scores and mediocre state school GPA's. Top 10 is much harder though.

2.9 GPA overall with 3.2 GPA in major.

As for story: Household that made no money and from a school that didn't help much in preparing me to go to college and didn't. Had to go the transfer out where even then once I got to UCLA, I wasn't prepared for what they had to teach.

I think I should be good in the rec department. I actually currently work at UCLA and answer directly to CFO, CAO, and school Dean so I know I can get a solid rec from them.

Thank you again for the responses.
