Should I try to transfer out of Rutgers?
I’ll be a freshman at Rutgers’ business school this fall (I didn’t get into the honors college, paying 30k a year). I was wondering if you guys recommend I try to transfer out to a school that will give me a better chance for breaking into IB.
From what I understand, Rutgers isn’t that bad for placement. It’s no Wharton but it has things like LIBOR and the Road to Wall Street program that seem to be pretty good. If there are any Rutgers students here that can give me more info on LIBOR and RTWS that would be great.
If I were to try to transfer, I would have to retake my SAT (my score is under 1500) and work on my application essays. This is time that I could spend networking, learning the technicals, or at least doing something to improve my chances into getting into IB here at Rutgers. I’m afraid that attempting to transfer would not be the most efficient use of my time.
What do you guys think? If you think I should transfer, where?
Hey bud, Rutgers student here. Like you mentioned Rutgers isn’t that bad of a place to be at, we have enough resources to properly recruit. With that being said, I would try to transfer to a better school if possible. While recruiting isn’t impossible from Rutgers, it is much easier from a semi or target school. The only times where I would suggest for someone to stay is if Rutgers is significantly cheaper and if they only got accepted into similar schools. I’m more than happy to answer any wuestns that you might have.
questions* ( love the WSO app)
Thanks for the reply, I was wondering if you can tell me how to difficult it is to get into the RTWS program and LIBOR (I know that there is an admission process for RTWS, not sure if there is anything for LIBOR).
.
PM me
you can pm me too for help
Pm if you want. I am a part of RTWS and the student investment fund which is a exclusive side of LIBOR. As mentioned above, SMF does prepare you more for the real world than does RTWS. RTWS is great for the resources and connections in breaking into the industry but if I had to put a ranking I would say SMF is more important. Try to get into both as SMF usually only takes freshman and rarely any sophomores. RTWS you can only get in through your freshman year.
In terms of difficulty, usually 10% of the applicant pool gets accepted into SMF and 15% or less gets accepted into RTWS. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get into these programs purely based off the number of applicants increasing yearly. Networking will be your best friend and don't be afraid to reach out to any of the classes older than you for advice and guidance.
Rutgers is a great school for most roles, and our presence on Wall Street has been increasing throughout the years due to alumni but also just hard work. My year placed the highest amount of individuals on the street and that was merely through networking and hustle. Granted, that getting into banking is harder than probably MO and BO roles at banks and Wall Street still has its target and semi target schools. But these programs Rutgers has to offer will definitely prepare you for what lies ahead. Let me know if you have any further questions.
Hey thanks for info, from what you are saying, I guess now is not a bad time to start preparing since I have to apply to these things my freshman year. What do I need to know for these interviews? How would you recommend I prepare?
Also I would have PM’d but I can only send one PM a day and I already sent one...
