Stevenson Institute of Tech Priority Application

Hi ! I am a high school senior with a 3.7-3.8 gpa and a sat score of 1460. I got a mail from Stevenson Institute of Tech today stating that I've been shortlisted for Priority Application through the college board student search service. I'm not sure as to what that entails apart from a priority merit scholarship consideration and if it's a marketing gimmick. Also I saw that it has a decent rep for it's engineering but since I'll be applying for Economics or Finance (up for discussion) and want to break into IB, PE or consulting in NYC(in that order of preference), what's the rep for business majors like from Stevenson ? A

Really appreciate you guys taking the time to help. (Ps. I saw the earlier forum on stevenson but that was more focused on a science major)

THANK YOU !!!

Never heard of that school (have of heard of Steven's Institute of tech tho but not sure if it's the same thing), but you've got a solid SAT and a decent GPA. How were your extracurriculars? What public schools are you in state for? Regardless, you can do a LOT better especially if you want high finance.

hi ! Yeah sorry must've been the autocorrect, i was talking about Stevens only. I'm applying to a lot of LAC's in and around NYC and a couple ivies. My extracurriculars are fine i got a national model un award and some regional exams under my belt along with a meme page and some mock trading. I was considering Steven's because of the priority aid mail i got and therefore, I wanted to know a little more.....

Do you live in New Jersey? I assume you do, since you're talking about Stevens. If you do, I would consider Rutgers as well. Someone with your profile should get in pretty easily and you can definitely get into NYC IB from there. I did Model UN in high school too, and I've done some big conferences at the college level too. I always thought it was a lot of fun, so don't quit that in college dude. Rutgers GA team is pretty solid and Crisis team isn't bad either. Your scores put you in a good place for a lot of solid schools. I would apply to all the traditional targets as well and just cast your net as wide as possible.

To answer your question, Stevens is a decent school for science and tech. Not really respectable for high finance and if you can go somewhere better you should go somewhere better. As for the aid, other schools can provide good aid as well.

Currently an upperclassman in the Quantitative Finance program at Stevens. Recruiting into IB/PE is difficult but not impossible. I have a few friends that have IB internships at decent banks but you have to work for it, especially because the program is relatively new and there aren't a lot of alumni. You definitely learn a lot in the major and you come out able to pursue many different career paths due to the Math and CS courses you take. This is definitely helpful if you want to go into AM, Quant, or trading. Happy to discuss further if you would like.

Hey @jrosen870 ! I absolutely agree with what you said. Could you please help me with what this "Priority status" thing is ? Because that sounded lucrative but I heard from an alum (on wso only) who said that all the recruitment is majorly for Back office positions......
