Take GMAT senior year of college?

A friend of mine who works in private equity just finished applying to several business school. He suggested that I take the GMAT during my senior year of college. His reasoning was that your mind is sharper then and that you still have plenty of time to retake it. This is assuming you graduate, work in IB for two years, work in PE for two years, and then go to business school.

What are your thoughts on this?

Yes. I'm going into my fourth year but I'm gonna take it shortly.

It was recommended to me that I take it while I'm still school.

They call me TheMailMan because I always deliver.

Take it while in school. You're still a studying machine. You're job is to study, so until you have another job, utilize that and destroy the exam. The score's good for 5 years. Also, it's changing in June so you'll definitely want to get your score in before then.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

StoudeMeloOn a side note....what kind of materials do people generally purchase to study from? Are Kaplan products the norm?

OG 12 Manhattan Strategy Guides

Definately agree to take it in college. I didn't but really wish I had. +1 for the Official Guide + MGMAT.

Take it whenever you have time during your senior year. Whatever you do don't use Kaplan or Princeton Review materials. Use OG first, then if needed supplemental official guides, then Manhattan or Veritas books.

Agree with Dr. Joe, but use the materials backwards. Use the MGMAT strat guides first, as they break down topics and how questions are written and tips, then use that knowledge to go through the OG guide (just questions)

Hi Gordan Bateman,

I absolutely recommend you take the GMAT while you are in college, as you have more time and are in a "study" mode. Your test score also carries for 5 years. As an important note, the GMAT is changing soon, so you should keep this in consideration.

Hi Gordan,

Yes your friend is correct! This time is perfect for you to start preparing for GMAT as you are still in touch with studies but if you wish to apply to top business schools then one of the prerequisites is having significant work experience. Generally candidates have around 4-5 years of full time experience inspite of several term time projects or jobs; so you may be competing with other candidates who have 4-5 years of full time experience and have started significant initiatives at college. Hence, we would advise you to gain some full time work experience before you decide to apply for an MBA.

If you have any further query feel free to ask us 
